CRICKET.

The opening match of,the season in connection with the Balclutha Cricket Club was played on Saturday, when teams were ohosen representing the President and Vioepresidents. The weather was none too favorable during the early part of the afternoon, but with the exception of a slight shower the rain hung off during the progress of the game. Messrs Deaker and G. Paterson captained the respective teams. Batting first the President's team (with ten players) scored 62, of which J. Perry (a new acquisition) contributed 39 not out. This was passed by the Vice-president's team for the loss o only three wickets, as Bower and Paterson completely mastered the bowling, and laid on the wood to some effect.
