COMMERCIAL.

Fat Cattle.—l7s head yarded. There was an improved demand, and prime bullocks sold well at a considerable advance on last week's prices. Medium quality steers and heifers brought slightly better prices. Best bullocks sold at £lO to £ll 7s 6d, medium £7 15s to £9 ss, best cows and heifers £6 5s to £7 10s, medium £4 15s to £5 17s 6d, old cows £3 10s to £5 7s 6d.

Fat Sheep.—2l4o penned. There was a brisk demand all through the sale. Several pens of wethers were taken for export at prices fully Is better than those obtaining last week. The trade took most of the ewes and paid from Is to 2s a head more than last week. Best wethers sold at 14s 6d to 16s 6d, medium 12s to 13s 6d, best ewes 13s 6d to 15s, medium 10s 6d to 12s 6d, old 7s to fts. Fat Lambs.—Only 528 penned, most of them good quality. There was a much better demand this week for prime lambs, which sold at fully Is advance. Best sold at lis (id to 12s 3d, medium 9s (id to 10s fid. Pigs.—32l of all sorts penned. Fats met a brisk sale, but stores were neglected. Suckers- sold at Cs to 10s 6d, slips 12s to 15s, stores 16s to 225, porkers 24s to 325, baconers 38s to 475, big pigs to 60s. All pig's sold in favour of buyers.

Donald Reid & Co., Ltd., report having held their weekly sale of grain and produce at their stores on Monday. There was the usual good attendance of buyers, and for all lines submitted satisfactory prices were realised :

Oats.—During the week .Vni.-ie has been keen demand for all' good to prime feed lines at prices in advance of last week's values. Owing to the large quantity of crop damaged by bad weather, milling vafus are scarce, and ate readily saleable. We quote prime milling 2s r>£d to 2s (id, good to best feed 2s 4d,-to 2s oil, inferior and medium 2s Id fo 2a 3d per bushel (sacks extra). Wheat. There is practically no prime milling offering, and quotations for such are therefore nominal Medium quality commands ready sale as fowl wheat, for which there is good inquiry. We quote prime milling 4s to 4s 3d, medium 3s 9d lo 3s lid, whole fowl wheat- ?s 4d to 3s Bd, broken and damaged 3s to 3s 3d per bushel (sacks extra), Potatoes.—Moderate supplies have been coming to hand, and with fair demand values have slightly improved W T e qupte prime derwents £4 to £4 ss, other sorts £3 10s to £4 per ton (sacks in). Chaff.—The market has been almost without supplies, and for all sorts there is ready sale at improved prices. Wc quote best oatai sheaf £5 to £5 10s' per ton (bags extra).

Tallow.—Rough fat 14s, rendered 16s to 21s. Sheepskins.-Felts 6d to Is C'd, crossbred Is lOd to 3s 3d, halfbred 2ff-to 4s 6d. Rabbitskins.—Summer 5J to Bd, small 3d to sd, autumns 9£d to 13d, outgoings 10jd to 14id, winters 15d to 17d, selected to 18Jd. Ryegrass.—Fanners' dressed 2s 3d to 3s, machined 3s 9'd to 4s 6d per bushel. Cocksfoot 2|d to 3^d. Butter.—Fresh 8d to Sd ; salt : first grade 9d, second do Sd, tin til do 7d, both for milled and dairy butter. Pigs.—To 1601b 4d, over 2£' d 'to 3£d. THE HOME MARKETS. The Agent-general under date 14th, reports :—" Mutton is very firm. The average price of Canterbury is 3fd, Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company. 3|d, other North Island mutton 3Jd. N.Z. lamb sd. The beef market is and very firm. Supplies of American chilled are smalf, and likely to decrease. For stocks of New Zealand on hand the prices are : Light hinds 51d, fores The market price for cheese is 545. Hemp is steady ; good fair Wellington, spot, £37 ; April-June shipment, £33 10s ; stock, 377 tons, against 362 last year. Cockstoot is quiet; quotations nominal. N.Z. 171b standard 42s to 455.
