SHOOTING AND VOLUNTEERING.
On Saturday, sth April, the Kaitangata Rifles fired the third competition for prizes presented by Dr Fitzgerald and Mr H. Kirby. Ranges 500 and 600 yards ; seven shots; one sigbter not to count. The weather was fine, although the light was rather dull. The following are the highest scores

The Clutha Mounted Rifles hold a shooting competition (handicap) on Saturday, 10th inst., Qalclutha Range. Entries close on 16th inst. Eanges, 300 yds and 600 yds; seven shots, with two optional sighters at each range. Prizes—l of 20s, 2o! 10s, 4of ss; range prize, (300 yds) rifle sling. A parade of the Clutha Rifles was held on Wednesday evening when there were present Capt. Hogg, Lieuts. Watt and Muir, and 41 rank and tile. The new magazine rifles, together with belts, slings, and water bottles, were issued during the evening, and as the new uniforms are expected to be ready this month, the corps should be fully equipped by next parade. The prizes won at last shooting competition were also presented to the successful competitors, each recipient receiving an ovation from his comrades as be stepped forward to receive the prize.
