FITZGERALD BROS' NEW CIRCUS.
This combination will arrive at the Bluff on the 20th per the U.S.S. Co.'s " Monowai," which has been specially engaged to bring the troupe, horses, animals and general circus material to New Zealand. The company will play in Balclutha on Saturday, February 24, after which they leave by their own specia train for Dunedin. The present show should prove a revelation to all those who admire equestrianism, as not only will they have an opportunity of witnessing the graceful lady riders, the daring gentlemen on their prancing steeds, the lion who rides an elephant, but the most sensational act of all, a tiger riding oh horseback 'and performing all the tricks of the most expert equestrian. The performance is most remarkable when one takes into consideration the antipathy they have to each other. This particular act has been quoted by the colonial press as being a marvellous exhibition. The present company is by far the largest arid most varied in all departments that the Messrs Fitzgerald have ever brought to New Zealand, and the many Continental and American artists come to our shores with the highest reputations from the principal circuses and exhibitions, of the Old World. The brothers bring a new show every time they pay a visit, - and they have to go far afield to obtain the best in all lines. In this they have always succeeded, and it matters not in the city or country town every act promised is faithfully carried out. We have it on reliable authority that the present company will not again appear in New Zealand after the present tour. The marvellous lion and elephant tricycle act and the tiger and hcrse sensation will in all probability revert to- their former owner, Herr Carl Hagenback, of Hamburg, who is bidding an enormous price for the repurchase of his at one time pets, ■his intention being to exhibit them with his animal show at the Paris Exhibition where they have not yet been seen. Mr Tom Fitzgerald is at present in treaty for other sensational novelties, which will replace them Arid which we may have the pleasure of seeing in the distant future. The circus will not play in any other towns after Clutha-feeforeDureJin, and we make these remarks in order to give country residents ample time to make preparations to visit the largest and best equipped show travelling Australasia. - ■ g ■
