The concert on Friday night for the contingent was well attended. The various performers filled their parts well. The farce " Mrs White " was well received, and the getup was a credit to those who had the management of it. A full report, is crowded out.

The Bank of New Zealand at Fortvose was entered and robbed of LSOO in notes on Friday night. The room of the bank agent in the hotel was entered, and the keys of Ihe strong room and safe taken from his pocket while he was asleep. The police expect to effect an early arrest.

We call attention to the patriotic concert to be held at Clinton to-morrow night. The committee have decided to make no charge at the door, but will make a collection during the evening which no doubt will be characterised by the liberality displayed oa such occasions all over the colony.

Hull's Kinematograph and Magic Lantern Co. visited Warepa on Friday night, bnt had a poor house, The pictures were very good being much above the average shown at such entertainments. Mr Moneklow introduced variety by singing several songs, accompanying himself on. the banjo, and delighted the audience in some conjuring acts which he performed with consideral la all ity.

A patriotic concert to bid farewell to the Southland portion of the fourth contingent for South Africa was given in the Theatre Boyal, Invercargill, on Friday evening, and proved the largest and most enthusiastic meeting ever held in the southern Metropolis. The theatre was not only crowded to the door long before the hour of the meeting, but the streets outside were also filled from side to side. A man named David McKenzie, employed as cook on Clydevale Station, was brought before Mr James Hoy, J.P., at Clinton, on Thursday, on a charge of stealing wool and tallow from the station. He was remanded for a week. Accused was arrested on Thursday morning by Detective Cooney, on returning from Lawrence where he had sold the stolen property.

A public trial is announced to take place at Mr Campbell's Inverteil farm on Saturday next and at all the public trials hitherto the machine has met with the aprroval of the farmers and others present. The eonvprsazione and concert to be held in the Warepa Hnll to-morrow afternoon and evening in aid of the Fourth Contingent and R- mount Fund promises to be an unbounded success: In addition to a number of popular speakers, Ihe committee have provided a grand show of curios, photographs, etc., shooting gallery, giaphophone, and other souices of attraction. Thus a very large attendance is assured, and no one wiil doubt that a corresponding addition to the fund will result.

The demonstration in connection with the departure of the third New Zealand Contingent for South Africa took place at Christchurch and Lyttelfcon on Saturday, and was a brilliant success in every way. Speeches were delivered by His Excellency the Governor, the Premier, the Mayor of Christchurch, and Bishop Grimes, all of which were worthy of the occasion, and the utmost enthusiasm prevailed. The contingent embarked on board the Knight Templar at Lyttelton at 5 o'clock. The steamer will not sail for two or three days, as the 'tween decks accommodation for horses requires to be entirely remodelled, being at present insufficiently ventilated. The contingent, however, will remain on board,

Owing to the rather abrupt ending of the concert held at Stirling on Wednesday night last (caused by a slight accident in the manipulating of the lime lights) votes of thanks that should have been passed were unavoidably omitted, The eomnvttee therefore wish to take this opportunity of tendering their sincere thanks to all those friends who so kindly cams forward and assisted in carrying out the most successful entertainment ever held in Stilling. The gross proceeds of the evening amounted to over L4O ; this includes some two pounds odd thrown on the stage during the rendering of the " Absentminded, beggar." The committee anticipate raising in all about LloO, and, with this in view, have already bought one horse (to be named Molyneuxl and presented it, along with equipment, to Mr W. Pallowfield. They are also equiping Mr Geo. Aitken, who is rinding his own horse, and for a third man they are equiping Bugler Jas. M'Donald. After sending these three men there should be a handsome balance to forward to the Mansion House Fund.
