First, a shot struck the side of my boot and struck my riile just in fi'ont of my fae:-, fi;:ii;g my eyr-s --vi;!i dust and splinter.;. I ro'-ie u[> a little when another shot struck the mk'icile finger of >»y !e r t hand. I had got on my kttf-es when a bu'lef struck me fair on the chest on the "buckle of my huversack,, breaking it through the con! re and causing a slight puncture of the skin, and bruising my dies!. Rave been congratulated as being the luckiest beggar in my battalion.
