ELECTION NOTES.

* ! Mr Thomson has addressed meetings at ; Knapdale, Waikaka Valley, Waikoikoi and j other places during the last teu days. All the meetings were well attended, and at every : place he met with a very hearty reception. Mr Blair addressed a meeting at Kaihiku on Wednesday 21st inst. About 30 persons were present, Mr John Johnston presiding. Mr Blair went ovpi % the same ground as in his speech reported in this issue. At the close, on the motion of Mr James Ayson a ' very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr I Blair. — Mr Blair addressed the electors in j Waiwera on Wednesday evening last, and there was a good turn out, several ladies i being present. Mr James Fye, an old friend j of the candidate's occupied the chair. Mr j Blair's speech was frequently applauded and Mr Joseph Anderson proposed and Mr Thos. Blackwood seconded a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Blair, which was carried amid applause. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting. — Mr Blair also addressed a meeting at Puerua on Saturday evening, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Mr W. Paterson. Mr Scobie Mackenzie has definitely decided to become a candidate for Dunedin. The date of the general election has not yet been officially announced, but it seems to be expected it will, take place on Monday, November 30. The friends of Mr Daniel Rakitapu, of Port Molyneux, will regret to learn that he has decided not to contest the Southern Maori Electorate in the coming general j election.
