TUESDAY, JULY 17. In the Legislative Council — The following bills were received from the House and read a first time : —Lunacy Act Amendment Bill, Taonui Railway Bill, Light and Air Restriction Bill. The Married Women's Property Bill was considered in comuuttee, and reported with amendments. The Criminal Code Bill was committed, and after the first clause had been agreed to the bill was reported. Hon. J» Macgregor moved the second reading of the bill which provides that children born out of wedlock shall be legitimised immediately upon the parents becoming united by marriage. After a debate the second reading was a«reed to, and the bill was referred to the Joint Statutes Revision Committee, In the HoTise of Representatives — The Standing Orders were suspended after some discussion, and the Bank of New Zealand Share Guarantee Act Amendment Bill and the Bank Share Transfer Bill passed through all stages. The debates on those bills occupied the afternoon and evening sittings. The Auctioneers Act Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed. The new Standing Orders were further considered in Committee and various amendments made. Hon. Mr Seddon mored thit the Speaker, Captain Russell, Hon. W. J. Steward, and the mover be appointed a committee-to arrange the Standing Orders in their proper place. —Agreed to.
