Ladies and Gentlemen, — I take this opportunity of intimating that I am a candidate for your suffrages at the forthcoming election as a member of the Licensing Committee for the district of Clutha. I wish it to be distinctly understood that I am a nominee of no particular party — either publicans or prohibitionists, — 'and if elected, will endeavour to administer the Act conscientiously and to tne best of my ability. I have been chairman of the Balclutha Licensing Committee for the past five years, and have always been in favour of a reduction of the number of licenses, and am still strongly of that opinion. I am, Your most obedient servant, GEORGE THOMSON, JJ" O T I 0 E. TO THE ELECTORS OF CLUTHA. Should the vsrdict of the Electors be in favour of reduction of licenses, for which 1 believe there is need, I think each individual case should be considered by itself and decided upon its merits, and not as some extremists insist, the full reduction permitted by the Act enforced, irrespective of the rights of in most instances very deserving members of the community. 182 GEO.
