THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
Mr Geddes, of New South Wales, has offered to erect a ineafc depot in Paris, provided . the French Govern merit will promise to enter into contracts. The latter are inclined to give the proposal favorable consideration;
In further interviews with the French War Office on the subject of the frozen meat trade Mr Geddes suggested that a permanent minimum supply of Australian frozen meat sbowld be retained for disposal to the French army under alight Government storage, charge, and the advantages which he pointed out would accrue from this system led the officials to express themselves' as favorably in clined towards the proposition. Samples of New South Wales mutton, New Zealand lamb, and Queensland beef were submitted to a number of experts for inspection) and all of them spoke in terms of praise of the quality of the meat. At the close of the interview a large number of leading officers of the French army were entertained at luncheon by Mr Geddes, and the guests expressed themselves delighted at the superior quality of Australian meats, which -were included in the bill of fare.
Mr Geddes considers there is a great field on the Continent for Australian produce, especially if the trade is pushed forward gradually without alarming the agrarian interests. He expects in a month to have a steamer equipped with a temperature regulator to test the carriage of Australian chilled meat, fruit, and butter at a uniform temperature.
