BALCLUTHA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above committee held last evening was attended by Mrs Ayson, and Messrs J. VV. Wilson (chairman), Wood, John Dunne, J. Ramage, and D. T. Fleming (secretary). A letter was read from the Education Board stating that the application to have the Balclntha Public School raised to the status of a District High School had been referred to the inspectors for report. — The letter was received and the committee passed a resolution favourable to the prayer of the petition on the. motion of Mr Dunne, seconded by Mrs Ayson. Mr Pope and Mr Matheson wrote with reference to the conducting of a night school, from which it appeared that the use of the school for this pnrpos. 1 . could only be granted to the headmaster. On the motion of Mr Dunne, seconded by Mr Wood, the use of the school was granted to Mr Pope accordingly. The committee appointed" handed in the annual report which they had presentation at the annual meeting of householders on Monday evening, and the same was approved of. The secretary laid on the table the balance-sheet np to March 3 1st, duly audited, which showed a credit balance of L 6 17a 2d. On the motion of Mr Dunne the than Its of the committee were recorded in the minutes to the secretary for the manner in which he had carried out his duties. Mr Ram age moved a similar compliment to the chair, which was seconded by Mr Wood, and carried. The minutes of the meeting were then read and confirmed.
