THE WASTE LAND BOARD.

The regular weekly meeting of the Land; Board was held on Wednesday. Present — The Chief Commissioner (j. P. Maifcland, Esq.), Mr J. B. Bradshaw, and Mr John Duncan. Mr John Thomson, on behalf of a few settlers, requested that sections 9, 11, 12,, 13. and 14, block XII. , Bengar district, be opened for selection under the de-ferred-payment system. The District. Land Officer reported that the sections, were suitable for farming purposes. — Recommended for the approval of the Government. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, on behalf of the discoverer, applied for thepastoral lease of a piece of country on the West Coast between Dusky Sound and. Wet Jacket Arm Sound. — Recommended for the approval of the Governor-in-Coun-cil, in order that a pastoral license for ten years over the area applied for may beput u£f to auction. Messrs Gillies, Street, and Hislop, on behalf of Win. Docherty, applied for aprospecting license for minerals over a piece of country one and a-half miles long: by half a-mile broad, north of Dusky Bay Sound, West Coast. — The Chairman ;.• We wish Mr Docherty every success. — Mr Gillies : He deserves it. — The Chairman He is a most enthusiastic explorer. — It was resolved — " That a prospecting license for twelve months be granted to applicant over tli3 area applied for — 640 acres — at one penny per acre. Applications to transfer deferred-pay-ment licenses under the 65fch section of the Land Act, 1877, were received as. under : — William Donovan to Jeremiah Oassey, section 13, block 1., Otara district ; Edwin Ellis to Daniel Claak Daltoti, section 2, block XV. , Crookston district. — Public notice of the proposed transfers, to be given as required by the Act.

The District Land < )fficer forwarded an application by Mr John Hogg to purchasesection 74 block 111., and section 63, block IV., Tuapeka West district, beingportion of mining reserve, and recommended that the same be granted. — It was resolved " that the applicant be allowed to purchase land under 164 of theLand Act, and that the District Land Officer be appointed appraiser to value the land." Messrs Connell and Moodie for John. Pottinger, requested the decision of the Board on his application to purchase section 21, block 11., Maniototo District, under the 28th section of the Land Act, he having complied with the conditions required. — Approved, subject to evidenceof consent of runholder. The following applications to purchase were recommended for the Governor's approval : — 1579c, James Hore, sections 1. and 4, block 111. , and section 16, block VII. , Maniototo ; 1480 c, Silas Hore, sections 2 and 3, block 111. , Maniototo \ 1763 c, James Fraser, section 15, block L, Budle district ; 1248 c, J. H. Waigth, section 10, block X. , Teviot district. The Warden at Lawrence forwarded forfavourable consideration an application by Mr H. J. Anderson to purchase hisresidence area, containing la 5r Bp, [secsection 80, block IV., Table Hill district.. — Application granted. Mr W. Hay requested that the proela-. mation setting aside section 25, block IX. , x _ Warej a district, as deferred-payment land*' be revoked and the section opened for sale at 20a per acre. — It was resolved— -. . ' ' That the Government be recommended to revoke the proclamation setting aside, the section in question." „ • . Certificates of application for agricultural lease& were approved as under : — Win..
