CLUTHA PRESBYTERY.

The Presbytery of Olutha met in the Church here, on Wednesday, when there were present — Messrs Spence (moderator), tfannerman, Allan, Skinner, Morice. Inglis, Hall, ministers,. and Messrs \yson, and Somerville, elders.

Mr Taylor,. missionary appointed to Tuapeka Weat, was introduced to the Presbytery by Mr Skinner. His credentials were- laid on the table. Messrs Hall and Bannorman were appointed a Committee of examiners, to report during the seder unt.

Taylor were "-highly satisfied with that gentleman's attainments and fully anticipated good results from his services.

The records of Kirk Sessions and Deacon's Courts were then examined and reported on and duly certiiie-d l>y the Moderator^

Messrs Skinner an(\ Ball reported their approval of the^plans and specifications of the new manse atTokomairiro;

Messrs Morice and Somerville were appointed members of the Synod's- Committee on bills and overtures.

Mr Morice gave notice that at the- evening sederunt he would move the folio-wing overture—" Whereas it has been publicly reported that unscriptural and unseemly means have been employed to raise funds for the erection of churches and other church purposes the Synod take the subject into consideration with the view of directing the attention of the Church to the scriptural rules thereanent" and of preventing resort to any means of raising church funds contrary thereto."

The Presbytery having taken into consideration the Regulations on Aged and Infirm Ministers Fund prepared by the Synod, adopted several alterations, also on the proposals as the Theological train-

ing It was agreed to disapprove of the proposal to alter the time of meeting of Synod from January to November, and to recommend that the General Treasurer's account be closed on the 4th January in each year, and that no contributions reported by congregations a£tev that date be included in the General Treasurer's report for that year. After some routine business the Presbytery adjourned.

In the evening a conference on the state of ' religion within the bounds was held in the class-room, to which the public had been invited but only gave an indifferent response. Rev. Mr S pence, moderator, presided. After devotional exercises brief,- earnest, and stirring addresses were delivered by the Moderator, and Messrs Inglis, Allan, and Morice. These were listened to with marked attention throughout. The meeting was continued till about 9 o'clock when it was brought to a close by Rev. Mr Morice pronouncing the benediction.
