(Renter's Special.) London, January 31. The directors of the Glasgow Bank made no defence. They only culled witnesses as to character. Potter and Stronach were found not guilty, as charged. The others have been found guilty of issuing false balances, and sentences will be passed on Saturday. Paris, January 28. Marshal MacMahon refuses to accede to changes in the anti-republican commanders of army corps which the Ministry desired to mnke, and recently declared he would avoid doing so unless the consequences proved detrimental to the nation. The Marshal threatened to resign rather than that the army should be disorganised. The majority in the Chambers intimate that if the resignation be tendered they will accept it. The Colonial Institute has appointed a select committee of inquiry as to the practicability of arranging for a CoColoniul Exhibition. London, January 29. Marshal MacMahon, persisting in his refusal to change commanders, has virtually resigned. He will formally resign probably to-morrow. The Congress, Senate, ar>d Chamber of Deputies will then meet and elect a successor. January 30. The Drobable candidates for the Presidency are M. Gravy, President of the Chamber of Deputies ; and Admiral Pothuan, Minister of Marine and Colonies. The Senate and Chamber of Deputies were specially convoked to elect a successor. M. Grevy's election this evening is a certainty. M Grevy was elected by a large majority, and bus been proclaimed President of the Republic for seven years. January 81. The Ministry remain in office, the President refusing to accept their resignation. Marshal MacMahon retires into private life. M. Gambetta has been elected President of the Chamber of Deputies. Bombay, January 30. General Stewart's cavalry entered Kilnlighilgie on the 21st. Viili Mahomet, brother to the Ameer of Afghanistan, has arrived at Kuram, and solicited General Roberts to receive him. A number of chiefs accompanied Vali Mahomet. Gambetta will probably be President of the Chamber of Deputies. noumania announces to Austria that she is ready to place 50,000 men upon the Russian frontier, to form a sanitary cordon. They will permit Russians to return from Bulgaria, but will resist others crossing the mountains. At the conclusion of the new trial in the celebrated Bagott case, judgment was reserved. • The Bonk of England has lowered its rate of discount one per cent. The sentences on the City of Glasgow Bank directors are — Potter and Stronaoh, 17 months : nnH Taylor, Ing-lis, Wright, Salmon, and Stewart, . eight months' imprisonment. Counsel tinned that they w< j re not guilty of false balances, as they had no motive for falsifying. New Zealand Fives are at 1 per cent, higher. All Colonial securities are buoyant. ! Consols, 97. The market rate of discount is 2i- per cent. Cetywayo, the Zulu King, not having submitted, war has been declared against him. (Special to Press Association.) London, Eebruary 1, The Bank reserve is stronger, being nearly 13 millions. The. market for Australian securities has experienced a strong revival. The wheat market is unchanged. A quantity of inferior New Zealand is in the market, Wools ara quiet at current ra*;es. In fine wools business is less depressed. The Zulu King refused to listen to the British ultimatum, and the British troops immediately crossed the frontier, attacking and carrying the principal outposts. Owing to repeated inroads on settlements on the Gninea coast, the Portuguese Government declared war on the hostile tribe. A strong expeditionary force is being posted out. J The British troops advanced into the Zulu country on the 12th ult. The advance so far has been without opposition. .Paris, February 3. The President of the Council of Ministers has resigned. M. Dufaure •also persists in resigning. M. Waddington, therefore, forms a new Ministry.
