BRUCE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the : Bruce County Council was held in the County Offices, Milton, on Tuesday last. There were present Messrs Henry Clark (chairman), Smith, Duff, Douglas, Calder, Wayne, Murray, andPetrie. The minutes' of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. Mr Wayne reported on behalf of the deputation appointed to confer with the Council of Clutha with reference to the re-erection of the Clutha bridge, that the Clutha Council asked the Bruce Council to undertake to pay one half of the cost of erecting the bridge. This the deputation refused to do, they being of opinion that the work was outside the County boundary, but agreed that if the Bruce Council wer** found liable to contribute towards the work they would take the matter into serious consideration. On the motion of Mr Murray, seconded by Mr Duff, the action of the deputation was approved of. A deputation from the Milton Borough Council, consisting of his Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Stewart and Reid, waited upon the Council with a view to the Bruce Council uniting with the Borough Council in erecting a town hall and suitable offices to accommodate both bodies. The members of the deputation having been heard, Mr Douglas moved, to the effect that the Council having no funds at its disposal for such a purpose, decline to entertain the proposal. 1 Seconded by Mr Smith, and carried. A letter was read from the Tokomairiro Road Board conveying permission to the Council to expend the Sum of L 250 on Loudens Gully road on condition that the ' Board, be not asked to supplement the vote . — Received. Specifications of the works proposed to be carried out on the Road referred to ■ were read and approved. On the motion of Mr Duff, seconded by Mr Smith, it was agreed that Ll5O be expended in forming the road, and LIOO in purchasing a road through Mr Loudens land. The Chairman and Mr Murray were authorised to receive and accept tenders for the work. A letter was read from the Tokomairiro Road Board making application for a vote of LSO to be expended on the road from Hollick's Stockyard to Loudon Hill. Consideration of the matter was deferred. In accordance with a motion passed at last meeting, the Clerk laid on the table a return, showing the expenditure on County roads within Road Districts, together with the County grants to, and the receipts from such districts up to 31st December, IS7B. Tenders were opened for contract ]STo. 15, being formation of 23 chains of road near to Mr M. Morrison's, Kaitangata. The decision as to the tenders was delayed till next meeting. Tenders were also opened for contract No. 1(3, being for supply of 300 cubic yards of metal, road Clarksville to Glenore. The lowest, that of Messrs Clymer and Atkin, LIOB 15s, was accepted. The Inspector's monthly report on roads and bridges was read and approved, and the monthly pay sheet passed. — The receipt.* for the month were reported, L 92 16s 6d ; expenditure, L 309 18s 2d. The meeting then adjourned.
