WAREPA AND KAIHIKU CALEDONIAN GAMES.

From four to live hundred people assembled on New Year's Day to witness . these sports, which were held on the banks of the Kaihiku stream, in a paddock kindly lenr for the occasion by Mr Wm. Christie. A start was made at 11 a.m.., and notwithstanding the somewhat rough state of the ground,, the entries for the various events were numerous, and the competition keen. Besides the printed programme a large number of special events were made up on the ground ; noticeable among which was a boys' masked race. The ludicrous false faces worn by the competitors in this race, which rendered recognition on the part of their friends a matter of almost an impossibility, gave rise to a great amount of mirth among the spectators. Robert Hogg, Esq., Mayor of Balclntha, presented the Committee with an Albert watch chain, to be run for, and which was won by J. Sheddan. Messrs Christie, Crawford, and others, members of the Committee of Management, were untiring in their efforts to promote the welfare of the games, all of which passed off successfully.
