WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The ordinary weekly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held yesterday. Present :— Mr J. P. Maifcland (Chief Commissioner), and Mes9rs Clark and Bradshaw. TABLE HILL. Mesais Connell and Moodie, on behalf of George Anderson, applied to have section 28, block VI, Table Hill district, put up to auction at 20a per acre. —Granted. EAST GORE. A petition, signed by about twenty residents of East Gore and suburbs, was presented. It prayed that block XIX in that township be reserved for recreation purposes. The block, which consists of about 30 acres of suburban land, has been advertised to be put up to auction, and the petitioners sought to have it with drawn'and devoted to' recreation purposes,' It was stated that there was no public reserve in the town, nor had provision of any description been made for the ; recreation of the inhabitants.". ' ■ ' .'■ -''■■ "'--■ ■'• ■ •••■' ■'•' "■= ... •- Mr Turnbull stated that a deputation from East Gore had been appointed to wait on the Board in reference to the subject, but he presumed that, in consequence of the floods, they had been unable to attend. - After considering the matterj the Board were of opinion that there could be no harm in withdrawing the block from sale at present, but whether the Government would grant the prayer of the petitioners was another question. It appeared to them that the block was eminently suitable for the purpose to which it was Bought to devote it. They accordingly decided to withdraw it from sale,' and to recommend the Government to make it a public reserve as requested. LAND NEAR .MUSEUM BESERYEJ. A memo, of the Chief Surveyor was read relative to a request by Messrs Donald Reid and Co., on behalf of Mr W. St. Paul Gellibrand, for four year 3' lease of Run 20,- situated between Run 218 and the Museum Reserve. '<■- It was decided to recommend the Government to offer portion of the run at auction, in accordance with the Chief, Surveyor's memo., for a term of years, to expire on the sth September, 1882. ■ • PREEMPTIVE RIGHTS. ' ; Messrs Donald Reid and Co., on behalf of Mr Gellibrand, applied to be allowed to take up 640 acres, each of leases 218 and '■ 121 A respectively, in lieu of pre-emptive rights which had not been exercised. The Chairman said he found that the usual notice with respect to the exercising of preemptive rights had been served on the agents ,of Mr Gellibrand. The' Board was riot disposed to grant the application. ' Refused accordingly. * '-•■'-• TOI TOIS. The same firm applied, for Mr' H. Carswell, for a re-hearing of his application to purchase 600 acres, block I, Toi Tois district. •: The Chairman remarked - that this matter, came before the Board on the 18th ult., and the ground on which the application was then refused was that the Bpard had got into a great deal of trouble with the public in consequence of having received applications of this kind before surveys were completed. The district in question was still under : survey, which would not be finished for three or four months. Under the circumstances the Board refused the application.
