Renter's London, Sept. 14. 1 The Government have sanctioned the appointment of Mr Rivers Wilson to the control of Egyptian finance. Consols, 95 ; bank rate, 5 ; market rate, 4J ; New Zealand Five per Cent Loan, 100| ; wheat and flour unchanged. The money market is unchanged. Business on the Stock Exchange continues dull. Australian securities show no sign o£ recovery. Consols are recovering, and are now quoted at 95. The tone, of the wool market is weaker. Best scoured, Id lower; faulty scoured, Id to 2d lower ; good greasy maintains its price, at about -|d lower than last sales ; inferior wools neglected ; cross-bred wool is heavy. The corn market is flat, foreign arrivals being very heavy. 1,281,000 quarters are on the way to England of New Zealand wheat. By the collision on the Thames, near Woolwich, 666 persons are now known to have perished in the Princess Alice. Sept. 15. In consequence of the Russian evacuation of Erzeroum, the Archbishop there, fearing a massacre of Christians by, the Mahommadan population, has invoked Sir A. H. Layard to grant them English protection. Lord Chancellor Cairns has been created an Earl. The Daily News says that the Envoys of two great Powers intimated to the Porte that a second Congress will probably be proposed, on the ground of Turkey's \msatiafactory fulfilment of treaty obligations. The Pope is ill. Sept. 16. The report that England has refused to join the other Powers in enforcing the Berlin Treaty on Turkey is revived. ■- Elliott won the championship of the Thames, beating Higgins and Boyk. Sept. 18.
