The Clutha Leader. BALCLUTHA: FRIDAY, AUG. 23, 1878.
A Grand Bazaar and Bruce Auction will be held in Mi* Inglis' new store, Dunedin, about the 9th September, in aid of the Benevolent Institution. Particulars will be found in our advertising columns. We have to call the special attention of our readers to this matter, as we think considerable assistance might be rendered from the Clutha. It is unnecessary to point out the claim tins Institution has upon our Christian liberality, but we fear that claim is not so fully realised nor so cheerfully responded to as its merits deserve. The present ia a very fitting opportunity for extending assistance, and as contributions are solicited in produce, &0. , which will be forwarded per railway free of charge, we trust many in this district will send small parcels. In other towns and other districts meetings are being held and a canvass made. We believe were a meeting called in Balclutha and a committee appointed, the articles for sale at the Bazaar and Bruce Auction would be largely increased. We would suggest that some of our public men should take immediate action in the matter.
