This Society, established in August, 1870, has done much to foster the progress of the Clutha and adjoining districts, loans of from £50 to £500 having been granted by the Committee of Management on the security of freehold property in town and country, amounting in the aggregate-' to "■ £25,000. Tlie original series of shares running off during the course of the current year, the Committee have determined to comply with a very generally expressed wish for a new series, thus affording an opportunity to Investors and Borrowers becoming members of the Society on favourable terms. The present appears in many respects a particularly opportune time for the Society extending its business. The safety of Loans effected under Building Society Rules is proverbial, and the profits in all Societies, managed with care and prudence, are large. To ordinary investors therefore wishing to lay past sma" \ sums monthly, no better investment or more profitable return for money can be obtained. The average profits made by this Society from its commencement has been upwards of 14 per cent, per annum. For borrowing purposes it is a well known fact over and over again proved, that these societies afford by far the cheapest and readiest means available for raising money. - Borrowers being also , shareholders, thus obtain an equal share in the profits, and as the rate of interest charged is only 8 per cent, the profits much more than cover th© interest, tlie balance being available in reduction of the Loan. ' The shares will be of th? ultimate value of £25, raised by monthly subscriptions of. 3s. per share. Discount will be allowed on subscriptions paid in advance. Provision is made in the rules for members withdrawing the whole or any part of their investments with a share of accrued profits. , Tho Committee are desirous that ap- ; plication for shares be made with as little , delay as possible, and due notice will be given when the first monthly subscription will be payable. . Forms of application for shares can be obtained from the Secretary, Balclutha, and from the Agents, and must be accompanied with a deposit of 2s. per share.
