The third annual, show in connection with the Mataura Pastoral and Agricultural Society, was held at Wyndham on Thursday, the Ith inst. The day was fine, , arid the attendance pretty good,, although the interest of the general public- was not so keen as "might liave . been expected. The last show having been held only nine months ago, may. somewhat- account for a lack of interest j but there were certainly no sho.rtcoixU'rigs a,ttrib*atal>le to the Committee . of Management, whose arrangements were most excellent and well carried out. The exhibition of horses was the largest and by far the best display..) The draughts and thoroughbreds: were equally well represented throughout the '-classes. The draught stallions included r Mr Pollock's Heather Ben ; a Taieri horse, Mr J. Eirkland's Yo.iing Hero, a rather massive animal, and Mr Adarnson's Nej*? Zealand Prince, a very fine horse -for his age, by Prince., of ■. -Wales,- a- favourite in Southland. The' thoroughbreds were. well represented by Mr. W-. 'B.^Bassbian's beautiful Vermicili, Mr Pollotek'a Captain Cook', , and; Mr Stark's Prince, Alfred. The stock of Messrs "Gray &ndY M'Laren carried off highest bononi-B in the Ayrshires -aiid milking classes, -and Messrs Beange arid Douglas in cross-brede-. Sheep. — In all the closes-, '"-^V© also far short of what tbey .were _tt th_ previous show. . In Lincobiß the_-e XmtA only two exhibits, a pen of 3 ewe_! .rtom M'Kercher Bros., and a ram from -Mr., Carswell, Toi Tois, but he received no award. Leicesters were, also short, "bul. some of them were really good, especiiail^ those of- M'Kercher Bros., Long JBjish* Merinos.— The I only exhibits in this class . ' were two rams belonging to the -Son-. Dr Menzies, and were worthy of the ho-fto'vir. "bestowed; Pigs and poultry were also far short 'of what thoy were at the last show-.
