SOUTH MOLYNEUX ROAD BOARD.
A special meeting of the South Molyneux Road Board was held on Thursday, 30th instant, for the purpose of hearing objections to rate roll. The members present were : Messrs Johnston, Lees, Smith, Steven, Sutherland, and IX Henderson (Chairman). The Clerk reported that no objections had been received to the rate-roil. It was then resolved, on the motion of Mr ; Lees, seconded by Mr Sutherland, that the rates, as advertised in Provincial Government Gazette of 31st October, fixed by the Board at meeting held on 26th October, and specified in the rate-books, be the rates for the year 1876-77 ; and that the Clerk serve ratepayers with notice of the amount of their respective rates. The ordinary business oi the meeting was commenced by reading the minutes, which were confirmed. Mr Paterson said that before proceeding to the business of the , meeting, he wished to place in the hands of the. Board his resignation as Chairman. The same was accepted, and Mr Donald Henderson was appointed Chairman of the Board. , The Committee appointed at last meeting to examine the river bank road, read their report, which was adopted ; and the ; same Committee were requested to draw out an agreement between the Board and Messrs Steven and Melville. A petition from Messrs Lees and Logan and thirteen ratepayers in Catlins River district, was presented by Mi- Logan, and read. The petitioners requested the Board to close a block road on the boundary of Mr Logan's property, and stated that the said road was not wanted, and could never be of any practical use. The Board agreed to close the road, but not to alienate it. A letter from Mr John Lindsay, Ahuriri, was read, requesting a deviation of road-line to allow him to erect a fence on his boundary. The matter was referred to the subdivision members. A letter from Mr Tait, Port Molyneux, was referred to the Inspector, for report. A letter was read from Mr D. Reid, solicitor, on behalf of Mrs Carrick. The Board passed a resolution, and instructed the Clerk to send a copy to Mr Reid. For contract No. 95, Puerua, there were cwo tenders received : — Peter' Abernethy, L 26 10s * James Miller, L 25 3s. James Miller's tender was accepted. Contract 95, Puerua, two tenders : — Peter Abemethy, L3O ; James Miller, L 22 ss. Latter accepted. Contract 97, Port Molyneux, three tenders : — Fencing, Robert Inglis, 183 per chain ; Gavin Whitfield, 1 7s 3 Isaiah Potiki, Ll9 for the whole. G. Whitfield's accepted. Contract 98, Port Molyneux, four tenders -.—Edward King, Ll6 ; G. Balloch , L2l; James Mills, LIG 17s ; Whitfield and Cunningham, L2l 10s. E. King's tender accepted. Contract 99, Catlins River, two tenders :— Peter Abemethy, L 45 * Richard Crews, L 33. Latter accepted. The following accounts were passed for payment : —Thomas Kirkwood, L 43 7s 8d ; Jackman and Co. , L 5 ; Emanual Jones, L 2 Bs. The Inspector was instructed to lay off work in Puerua and Port Molyneux subdivisions, and call for tenders for next meeting. It was resolved that in future the' Board would advertise in the Clutha Leadek. The Board then adjourned.
