SALE OF STUD SHEEP.

• -On : Monday . last, Messrs J. T, Eprd and Co, submitted the, Hon. W. Robinson's fldcfc of sheep for sale by public auction^ at the farm lately occupied by Mr Whihcop, near Prebbleton. A portion of the sheep Were originally purchased by \Mr Robinson from Messrs Dudding, T. Kirkham, andyKack. three of the most noted, breeders at Home, r and v/ere used by 'him" as a stud flock, 'ihe remainder "of the sheep offered being bred from them. Mr Robinson's intended departure, for England induced _him to call a sale,'and-if the bidding had realised anything like- fair value, he would have permitted the whole of the flock to be sold", but, as it was, a .number of the sheep were bought in. Ther^ was a good attendance of breeders, and the sheep offered- were pronounced by the best judges present to be,' as a whole, one of the choicest flocks, ever offered to a Canterbury public. Mr C. ; Newton officiated as auctioneer with his usual ability. There wore 383 sheep submitted, comprising seventy-seven ewes .originally imported I from England, one imported Kirkham ram, one imported Cartwright ram, and their progeny, tis follows : — 29 twoyear old sheep, 44 ewe hoggets, 60 ewe lambs, 41 ram lambs, and 32 twotooth rams. Out of these Mr Newton succeeded in disposing of 193 at prices ranging from six to twenty-two guineas, the overage being £10 2s per head. The buyers were Messrs R. Wilkin, Acland, Andrew, Threlkeld. Patchett, W. White, Marcroft, Broadfoot, Hirst, Tanner, Sharp, Nutt, P. Russell, J. Deans, and Elworthy, the Revs. Fisher and Bluett, and the Lowcliffe estate. Only, fourteen of the imported ewes and one pen of the two-year-olds were among the sheep sold. Those which did not realise tbe owners' value were bought in by Mr T. M. Hassal, and Mr Robinson will continue to use them as a stud flock with an imported ram which took second prize at three of the principal shows in England during the year 1874. After the sale Messrs Ford and Newton- bought the whole of Mr Acland's purchases for their Arowbehua property.—' Canterbury Times.'
