Matau Road Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the Matau Road Board, was held on Monday, 31st January. The members present were, Messrs Geo. Inglis, (chairman,) James BelL and Peter Smith. The minutes of previous meeting being read -were adopted. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr Dougheity, in re contract on' Coal Road. The Chairman was authorised to deal with the matter. : ■ There was a further communication from Mr Baird, directing attention to an encroachment made by the river on a certain portion of. the ,road, adjoining Mr Anderson's property. Tlie Clerk was directed to acknowledge Mr Buird's letter, and state that as soon as possible this matter would be rectified.
The following accounts were passed : — M'Lean, Byers &Co., works, I, C. Subdivision, £311857 d; John Watt, works, I. C, Subdivision, £16 ; W. P. Smith, works, I. C. Subdivision, £16. The Clerk was directed to call for tenders for the lease of Kaitangata Punt, and for five chains of metalling Hill Road, above Stirling Station. Thereafter the Board took up the question of a general metal supply for the roads. It was unanimously agreed that the Chairman make application to the Waste Lands Board for a portion of the Railway Reserve, adjoining the Railway Bridge iv course oi erection, as the most eligible and convenient point where a quarry could be obtained for the upper portion of the Matau Road Board District, including both Subdivisions. '•
The Punt Committee were requested to mske arrangements with Mr M. Kissock for the working of the nuht, uotil such time as the Matau Bridge, which is in course of erection be open for traffic.
The meeting then adjourned to meet again on the last monday of the month.
