The Daily Time*?;''' I tinderstand, has been giving veub to its discontent in imposing growls or angry snarls, with what reason or justice I know not, but one thing is quite clear that Government should endeavor to avoid even the appearance of partiality, and the laying of itself optm to the slightest imputation of having acted in. a matter of this sort otherwise than as the public service absolutely required. Let us make up our minds at once that the days of purchasing Government support are gone for ever, and that this Colony will not tolerate for a momen any Government action which is not in strict accordance with the rules of honor and honesty ; that the handful of British men in this remote island are resolved to set a good example to the Empire, by insisting that the* Government of this country shall be carried on in a legitimate manner only, and in accordance with the, dictates of probity and fair dealing; that the body-politic shall be healthy, and all rottenness be eliminated out" of the State, and that no ability of a public man or of a Government shall justify the slightest departure from the straight path of rectitude, considering the doctrine that the aid justifies the means is both dangerous and objectionable.
