AUCTION REPORTS.
Grigor, Maitland and Co, report for the week eading October 6th. On the 2nd October, at our fortnightly sale, we sold a quantity of half bred hoggets at Us 3d in wool. We also disposed of privately, a mob of half bred fat sheep, at 12s Gd. Owing to the roughness of the weather, the prices realised for cattle were not at all satisfactory. We anticipate considerable competition for our sale of store cattle on 22nd October. On the above date we offered for sale at our rooms, 36 sections at the head of Main South Road, in A. M'Neils Subdivision of the town of Balclutha, which were disposed at an average of £20 per section, being an average uf £110 per acre. The position being well out of the bu&iness centre, we consider the above prices are highly satisfactory to the vendor. ©n the 4th at our looms, we sold about 3500 acres of land in the Kuriwao district, at an average of about 30a per acre. Grain. — No alteration from last week's rate "Mfessrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report : — Fat Cattle.— There was a full supply of 140 head yarded, of which we sold 101 on account of Messrs. Jame3 Wright, Robert Elliott, James M'Leiah, and John Andrew. Bullocks fetched from £10 to £16 : cows, £7 10s to £16 10s, or equal to 40s to 45s per 1001 b. for prime quality, and 32s 6d to 35s for medium ditto. Fat Calves. — 20 wore yarded, which we sold from 30s, to 50s each. Fat Sheep.— 2,ooo were penned, consisting mostly of good quality cross bveds. We sold 780 at from 17s 9d to 19s 3d- Privately we sold 300 cross-breds at 18s each, delivered on station ; and, during the week, we delivered to the trade 1,150 cross-breds previousley contracted for. We quote prime mutton 4d to 4£ per lb. Store Cattle.— There is a good demand for all •classes, more especially for grown cattle for paddock fattening. We quote bullocks, three to five years, £7 10s to £8 10s ; cows, ditto, £4 10a to £5 1 0s ; mixed lots, £3 10s to £4 10s. Store Sheep. — We have buyers for two, four, and six-tooth cross-breds. We have to report | the sale on account of Messrs. Borton and M'Maater of two hundred two-tooth merino rams from their pure flocks, at £4 each. Horses. — The demand for heavy draughts is somewhat slack, but strong coach horses are in good request. On Saturday, at our yards, a fair amount of business was done, particularly in light stock. We quote first class draughts, £65 to £75 ; medium ditto, £45 to £55 ; light and inferior, £25 to 35 ; medium ditto, £14 to £20 ; light and inferior, £3 to £7. Sheepskins. — At our weekly sale on Thursday the attendance of buyers was good, and bidding "spirited- -green skins fetching fully 3d. each over last week's rates. Prices obtained were as follows ! — Butcher'B green skins, cross-breds, 5s 9d to 6s 6d ; ditto, merinos, 4s 2d to 4s Od ; station skins, Is 9d to 3s Bd, according to quality. Hides. — We sold 107 medium weights at 15s '45d to 20s 9deach ; heifsrs skins, at 6s 9d; calf skins, at 2s 3d. Grain.' — There is little alteration in values «ince our last report ; the quotation in wheat may be taken as representing market rates. The inquiry for prime samples of wheat is good, hut oats are difficult to place.
