KAITANGATA COAL COMPANY (REGISTERED)

An extraordinary meeting of the KaiTangnra Coal Company (registered) was heM in the Company^ office, Dunedin, on Saturday. A large number of shareholders were present, and Mr T. C. Ritchie, of Balclutha, occupied the «hair. The following resolutions were carTied : — "1. That this Company, not beingin debt, be voluntarily wound up, withtmt resort to the Court, under the provisions of ssction 112 of the Mmmg 1 Companies Act, 1872. " 2. That the whole t>f the Com"pany's property, real and personal, be j 'transferred b) r the directors to the Kai- j tangata Railway and Coal Company j •'(limited) on the transfer to them of 501 shares, worth £6 per share, paid up, and 35 fully paid up shares in the last named company ; and that the directors are hereby authorised to execute all necessary deeds aud assignments for the purpose of properly vesting such proerty in the said Kaitangata Railway and Coal Company (limited). *' 3. That on the completion of such assignment and transfer, the books and documents belonging to the company be handed over to the Kaitangnta Railway and Coal Company (limited). KAITANGATA RAILWAY COMPANY. The following report from Mr Coyle, Engineer to the Kaitangata Railway and Coal Company, was read and received : — " Dunedin, August 6, 1875. '" The Chairman Kaitangatn Railway and Coal Company (limited), " Sir, — I have the honor to submit to you for the information of the Directors of the Kaitangata Railway and Coal Company the following report of the progress of works on this railway, and purchase of permanent way material in England : — " Fencing. — Two and a-half miles complete, and material on ground for two miles. i( Formation and Drains. — Two miles of line is formed, and main drains for a similar distance. " Bridges and Culverts. — A portion of the timber for these works is on the ground, and the remainder on hand. "Permanent Way. — The whole of the sleepers for the line have been purchased, and aTe on the ground. The order for rails, switches, crossings, and fish-plates, in exact accordance with drawings, lias been placed in the hands of the Darlington Iron Company (limited), as follows : — 4olb rails, 21 ft. long, No. 40, at L 8 3s 6d per ton; 401 b rails, 24 ft. long, No. 2275, at L 8 3s 6d per ton , free on board in the river Thames, net cash ; manufacturers r€ceiving the usual latitude of 10 per cent, of rails shorter than maximum rates. Switches and crossings, Ll6 10s per set, ■ net cash; fish plates, lls per cwt., net cash — same delivery. The spikes, bolts, and nuts are being supplied by Messrs Bayliss, Jones, and Bayliss, of Wolverhampton, manufactured cf best Staffordshire quality, as follows : — 42,580 spikes, 18s 9d per cwt., net cash ; 9280 bolt 3, 19s 3d, ditto ditto, f.o.b. in London. The whole of the material was to be shipped on the 18th June ultimo, and by the end of September it may be expected here. Before shipment all material will be inspected by Mr G. B. Bruce of Westminster, Inspecting Engineer to the New Zealand Government, which affords a sufficient guarantee of the quality of material supplied to us. *" The formation will be complete - about the time of the arrival of rails .from England, and the line may be opened'for traffic by the middle of December. " In concluding this report, I would suggest to the directors the necessity of making provision for engines and rolling stock, in view of the line being ready frr traffic by the end of the yeox. li The purchase of the material for •this line in England at the prices quoted is eminently favorable to the company ; and Mr Smyth is to be congratulated on the efficient manner in -which the transaction has been carried out by him. — I have, &c, "J.
