Presbyterian Soiree.
INCH CLUTHA CHURCH.
A soiree in connection with the Presbyterian Church, Inch Clutha» was held in the drill -shed there on the evening: of Tuesday. The large hall, which' was tastefully decorated, was well filled. A service of tea, cake, and fruit, provided by the ladies of the congregation, having been discussed, the hall was re-arranged, and the after part of the programme pro-, cceded with. The chair was occupied by the officiating clergyman of the congregation— Rev. Mr Allen—who in the course of a few introductory remarks, congratulated his hearers on the success which had so far attended this the first social meeting held in connection with the Inch Clutha branch of the congregation. Looking at the inclement character of the weather, he regarded this as a good sign of the interest taken in matters relating to the church. He hoped that interest would continue to manifest itself in a still higher degree, and that the day was cot far distant when the congregation worshiping on the Island would be in a position to make more adequate provision for the Sabbath service than at priesent existed. He called upon the treasurer — Mr Anderson — who read and submitted the following statement oi finances for the year 1874 :— Balance on hand at commencement of year, L4l 123 2d; sustentation fund, L 235, 9s 2J • mission fund, L 33 2s ; Day Spring, maintenance fund, L 3 17s 9d; new Day Spring fund, L 26 149 6d ; native catecbist, Swatow, L 25 ; special collections, LM Oi 6d : church door collections, L 73 14 * s£d ; seat rents, Inch Clutha, Ll7 18? : tnakiDg the total income for the year L 473 Bs,7&d.
