The brig Anne Ogle, from Sydney, was wrecked near Smokey Cape. Portions of the hull and boats were washed ashore. The vessel was insured for £4,500. The schooner Sarah Nichol was lost near same place. Both crews are supposed to have perished. A Greek named Gatsos has been committed for trial for murdering a Chinaman at Gulgong.

The steamer Helen M'Gregor, of 300 tons, was wrecked while bound from Sydney to Grafton, by running on a reef. The passengers and crew were taken off, but one boat capsized, and eight of the occupants were drowned. The Premier promises £5000 towards representation at Philadelphia exhibition.
