Smith applied to purchase the small island m the Clutha River, situated opposite sections 6 and 7, block 9, Inch Clutha. The application was refused. The funeral of Mrs James Macandrew takes place to-morrow (Thursday). Asa mark of respect to the memory of Mrs Macandrew, the Mayor has invited the citizens to close their places of business from 1 to 4 p.m., to-morrow afternoon during the funeral. Alice Hawley a woman of bad character living-jj in Walker-street, died suddenly this morning 1 from the effects of intemperance.
