PTIHE second half year of this Journal wi"l commence from the Ist January, 1875 ; and the Proprietors take this opportunity of inviting those who have not yet sent in their names as Subscribers to do so at once. The success which has hitherto attended the efforts of the Conductors to make the Clutiia Leader, what it now is, the largest UP-COUNTRY KEWSPAPER IN OTAdO, justifies ' them in the belief that their efforts havebeen appreciated by the largest majority of the inhabitants of the Clutha and Surrounding Districts. The Leader has now a very large and 1 steadily increasing circulation in the most ; important agricultural districts of Otago, extending from Dunedin to Invercargill, including the Taieri, Tokomalriro, Hillend, ( Tuakitoto, Inch Clutha, South Clutha, TeHouka, Port Molyneux, Catlin's River, ! Warepa, ropotunoa, Malaura, Toi Tois, ( Tapanui, Waikaka, &c, &c, including the various townships in these districts. This Journal is recognised as preeminently THE SETTLERS' PAPER throughout the several districts mentioned, • and affords both a town and country publicity such as no other journal in the Province provides. The Early Days of the PROVINCE. A PRIZS of any LITERARY WORK, value One Guinea (to be selected by the winner) will be given by the proprietors of the Clutha Leader for the best essay on THE EARLY DAYS OF THE PROTINCE! It is suggested that the writers should freely give incidents and individual experiences (not necessarily those of the author) of the early settlers, The essay may be written either, in Scotch or English, and, although there are no res* triotions as to length, it ia desirable that it should not exceed, three or four columns, of the Leaser. The Editor to have the right to publish fa the Clutha Leader any of the essays received should he think proper. ; Thoroughly competent judges will, beap-. pointed to aw, jrd the prize. The essays must have a motto attached, an,d sent to. the Editor, accompanied by a sealed envelope giving the same motto and the name of the writer. These latterwill not be opened until the judges, have .arrived at their- decision. The essays; accompanying-envelopes, to be. sent in to the Editor 'not later than the 2n4, .January, 1875.
