Clutha Presbytery.
The Presbytery of Clutha met here yesterday at 12 o'clock. There were pr-'stnt: Rev Andrew Bett, mo'erator, and Messrs Bannerman, Allan, Waters, Connor, M'Ara, ministers; and Robert Houliston, elder.
Mr Bannerman introduced to the Presbytery Mr Andrew Grey Boyd, student, at present laboring at Alexandria. The Presbytery heard Mr Steven's trials for license, and examined him on all the subjects pre T scribed by the rules of the Church, and sustained the same with approbation. He was thereafteFlicensed to preach the gospel, and right hand of fellowship from tbe brethren present.
Mr Boyd made application to the Presbytery to be received as a student entering on his theological course under the superintendence of the' Presbytery. The application was agreed to, and a committee appointed to examine Mr Boyd with a view to his entering upon his studies in theology. Mr Waters reported that the deputation had visited Cromwell and mct 7 with all parties concerned, when the following resolution was, passed by;.the Presbytery--;, "That in terms of powers given, by the Synod' to the Presbytery to rebeive-Mt' Drake and to declare Cromwell a congregation of this Co.urch, f it was resolved, accordingly—and whereas the congregation has made unanimous choice of'Mr Drake as their pastor, tte Presbytery appoint his" induction to take place on the loth Febru*? ary next. Mr Banaerman to/preach and
preside, and Messrs Cameron and Teilord to be the other members of Presbytery present.
The Deacon's Courf-of Warepa applied to the Presbytery to recommend the Synod to grant L2OO for additions and repairs to the manse.—The- Prtsbyttry agreed to itcommend the grant. Messrs Arnot ;/.nd Watt were nominated by the Presbytery to be theological tutors.. It was carritd th>it tins Presoytery recommend that the Synod should not proceed to appoint a second thtological tutof in the mean time. Congregations were instructed to send up all congregational records to the.- meeting in ManJb, to be examined by the Presbyt* ry. It was agreed to make a Collection throughout the bounds of the Presbytery mi the fr-t Sabbath of February, as a fund to meet expenses of Prisbytery. Mr Waters called the attention of the Presbytery to certain resolutions on union, which purported to emanate from the committee on union of this Church,., with the view of its being made public. That such resolutions canuot have emanated trom Maid committee, no meeting of 4 committee had betn held to consider the subjects, or any communication made to member of committee in connection with it.
The Presbytery adjourned, to meet in the church, B-alclutha, on 30th December inst., at 12 o'clock.
