EXTENSIVE PURCHASE OF LINCOLN RAMS FOR OTAGO.

An extensive sale of Lincoln rams ■was recently held at Panton House, the I residence of Messrs W. and H. Duddin°*, who have devoted a large amount of attention to the production of the most perfect animals which blood and pedigree can possibly beget. The " blue blood" of noble sires with dams of equal purity, have brought this flockto a point of perfection which at once places it on the top of the tree of longwools. For nearly a century sheep of the best form have been cultivated by the predecessors of Messrs W. and H. Dudding, and for eighty years the flock has annually been submitted to public competition. Customers have iome from all parts of the Um|ea Kingdom and the British Colonies Australia. New Zealand, and Canada have regularly sent representatives to the sales held by Messrs Dudding. At the sale in question about 200 gentlemen were in attendance, amongst them Messrs Reid and Jones, of Otago, and other gentlemen from New Zealand, who were intent on obtains some of the Panton sheep, as the wool of this flock is in most request for the flocks ol tins colony, the staple haying, length, tension, softness," and firmness— qualities for which colonial buyers, as a rule, are always on the outlook. The followinglots were sold to the Otago purchasers : —Lot 34, Mr Jones, 20 guineas ; lot 35, Mr Jones", 25 guineas ; lot 38, Mr Jones, 14 guineas; lot 43, Mr Jones, 27 guineas; lot 51, Mr Jones, 49 guineas ; lot 53, Mr Jones, 15 guineas ; lot 66, Mr Jones, 21 guineas. The

sale altogether brought L 2,590, an average of L 37 1 12s 4d for 60 shearlings. Four old sheep were sold at an average of L 27 V's 9d, and six sheep at an averge of L33 13s 4d. Another extensive sale was held at Biscathorpe House, near Louth, of the flocks of Mr Thomas Kirkham. The same representatives from New Zealand were also present at this sale. Seventy-five shearling rams were offered for sale. The following were bought for New Zealand : Lot 6, Mr Jones, 21 guineas * lot 7, Mr Jones, 20 guineas; lot 14, Mr Jones, 21 guineas; lot 18, Mr Jones, 21 guineas; lot 19, Mr Jones, 42 guineas; lot 23, Mr Jones, 2n guineas; lot 24, Mr Jones, 26 guineas; lot 32, Mr Jones, 18 guineas; lot 40, Mr. Jones, 16 guineas. The total hale realised L 2,291, or an average of L32 14s lid for each animal.
