COUNTRY SALES.

Inveroargili..— Messrs Martin, Maitland and Co., auctioneers, report:— We sold a number of very superior fat cows and stem on account of R. W. Willams, Esq., at from L6ss to L9 '158 per head, the average, considering the. qualify, being somewhat below the market price. Small numbers of fat sheep were yarded, the price obtained being los 6d for half-bred wethers, shorn ; equal to 2|d per lb. The demand for store cattle is particularly brisk at present, especially for well-grown steers. At our stock sale on tho 2nd inst., we sold 40 head of very, superior store bullocks in fresh condition on account of P. M*Kellar, Esq,, for L6 2s 6d per head, and about twenty head on account of R. W. Williams, Esq., at from L4 5s to L6. Mixed I cattle, over six months, 50s ; young stock, 295. We sold privately during the month, 180 head of well-bred mixei cattle, at L3. Store sheep of all classesare in good demand. We sold by auction full-mouthed merino ewes in the wool, with lambs at foot, at lis 6d ; half-bred ewes, 4-tooth to full-mouth, in the wool, and with lambs, 18s 6d to 20s. Privately, a small lot of half-bred do, at from. 128 to 209 ; and 1500 merino, full-mouthed, in the wool, at 10s. • '.-' Mr D. Macrorie, Auctioneer, reports: —Although the market hss, during the last few weeks, been plentifully supplied with horse stock, rates have not been sp much weakened as might have been anticipated. On the 22hd ult, at Winton, I sold Mr. White's stock of cattle and horses. The cows realised 1 from L 5 15s to Lls 10s ; steerSi 15 2s 6d; heifers, from 42s to 955. lighter stamp varied from L3O to L4S, according to condition. I sold at Jacob's Hiver, on behalf of Mr CJymont, horses, which realised from L 7 10s (young unbroken) to L53 for heavy draught ; cows, from L3 7s 6d to L 6 10s ; waggon, L35 ; reaping machine, L2B $ dray, LlB 10s ; double furrow plough, Lll 15s ; single ditto, L4; Bpring cart and harness, LlO 5s ; harrows, L 2 12s 6d to L 5 17s 63 ; grubber, L 3 10s ; thresher. L 2 10s. MrLawson's second importation of draught mares and geldings were offered at Invercargill, and though but little publicity had been given of their arrival, out of 21 head landed 17 found pu'cbasers. The stamp received veryhigh commendation, and there is no doubt that bad these been earlier ia the market, the very fullest rates of the season would have been attained. For draughts, the sales ranged from L 32 to LB> 10s, and one filly out of a draught mare by a bl*od entire, brought L3O. Tokomairiro — Messr* Capstick, Dutbie and Co. report for the week ending 7th inst — We had a very meagre sale after the Show on Thursday, the 3rd December. The stock consisted of one shorthorn dairy cow, at LlO ; one Ayrshire bull, at L8 ; draught colt, L ls ; and light brood mare and foal at foot for LlO. We disposed of 22 acres 2 roods of rye and clover grass — two months to have the same removod — at L3 Is and L 2 1 9s per acre. Our private *ales have been, 37 head of young cattle, 18 months to 2 years old. at 35s ; 3 store bullocks, at L 6 ; 2 cows at L4 ; 8 head of steers and heifers, at L3 ; and 20 head of fat cattle, at Ll2 each. 100 merino ewes and lambs at foot (Jn wool) at 13s ; 51 cross-bred ewes with 35 lambs at foot, at 23s 6d ; 2000 cross-bred 4-tooth ewes nnd wethers, to be delivered Bst January, 1875, at 10s each.
