When we consider that this bird is found in various parts of Europe, North ancl South, in North Africa, the Levant, the Himalaya mountains, and other parts of India, but is wanting in North America, it is not merely interesting, but highly sug--gestive, for it points to some climatic influence wbich may affect that peculiar species of the feathered class. Ladies' Sanitary Association. — Thia is an Association which acts, for the most part, under sound professional guidance, and which labours to diffuse a love of cleanliness and comfort, and a knowledge of the laws of health and life, amongst the poorer part of the population. Tracts are widely circulated, and lectures have been delivered to the working classes by several pro • fessional gentlemen. Snook's boy heard him say the other day that there was money in hens, and he proceeded to investigate the old man's poultry-yard. , He had gone through a dozen fine specimens when the old man descended upon him, and the 1 boy now wonders if there is any balm in Gilead.
