MOLYNEUX JETTY.
To the Editor of the Clutha Leader. Sin,—l note an article in your issue of the l9th ult, commenting on the tmberr used in the Port Molyneux Jetty, also your own correspondent's comments on the article in question in your last. " Your own" says the contractors will be happy to show some timber, " the same as he calls mero," which has been in the old jetty nearly twelve years, and is now as good as the first day it was put in. The late Mr M'Lellan had the contract to erect the old jetty in 1863, and I furnished the piles for him^ I also furnished the piles for Messrs Gatt & Begg's contract for extending the contract in 1864, all of which were black pine. If the present contractor says they are mero he is no judge: if the engineer makes the same assertion from his own judgment I recommend hfm to take a bushman's biMet for twelve months, and he will then have a better idea x>f the different kinds df timber. " Your own" says the timber and piles for the present contract have been ordered from Glenomaru mills. Now, these mills have "been in existence since 1861, and always known as "Glenomaru Mills," but there is now another mill in the same district which your correspondent ought to have distinguished when he made the ■above statement, as I have nothing to do with the present contract, nor have I seen it since its commencement. I do not find fault with "yourowh" for being the champion of injured innocence, but I think he ought to take his own advice and ascertain for a fact whether or not his innocents are as innocent as he would make them appear.—l am, &C-, A. S. B^Gs, Glenomaru Mills, 27th November, 1874.
