Playful Creatures.
An American contemporary is responsible for the following somewhat eccentric behaviour of a youthful "Newfoundland dog during a visit to the " Virginian Enterprise " pressroom. The aniraa', on entering the room, afttr insp' cting the running of the job press for some time, went up to ii, and -'tuck his i.o-e between a pair of cogwheels leaving between them a niece of skin aoout the sizs of a dollar. He next turned his attention to the b^d of ihe power pn ss which seemed to be shooting in and out in a playful manner; On seeing it apparently retreating from him he u-a c a closer inspection, but was almost instantly knocked down by the return of the bed. -This somewhat roused his be; a battle ensued, but, being repeatedly knocked down as • ach paper whs struck < ff, h*. finally re'ired, ■nd watched the operitioii at a distance. B- ing s ! ut up in the r ft. nil tluring the nex •lay, he made nis be', in an empty ink-ban tl. but. being blak h m-e'f, the condition he was in was not n viced v 'til he was taken on board the tr in for Ca. son. It. wa» then imind that fit- was as full of i k as one ot be.ink ball* 3 u-e ! by printers in th-; enrh days of printing, and, '* beb'g an aiTcc:i nue nod p'ayful --us*-, the c msternauoh be created aboard that train can well he imagined."
