FUTURES BSI becalmed
The Barclays share price index futures contract was virtually becalmed yesterday.
The December BSI contract was unchanged at 1990 for its mandatory closeout, giving it a two-point premium to the physical, and the March contract was untraded. There were only two trades in the December BSI, both done broker to broker because the automatic trading system was down at the time, according to a dealer. Attention will swing to the March BSI for the half-day’s trading today.
Feeder cattle In Chicago, Chicago Mercantile Exchange feeder cattle futures closed lower, primarily in sympathy with declines in live cattle, floor sources said. Traders were reluctant to greatly push prices in either direction during the thin holiday trading. Also, the lack of cash-settlement prices this week discouraged active participation, some sources said. Volume was light and prices were confined to narrow ranges.
