Area Health Board

Sir,—The arrogance of the newly appointed member of the Canterbury Area Health Board, Mr Baird, is unbelievable. In times of hardship, the public gave an uproar when the chairman’s salary was raised to about $36,000 — a mere pittance compared to the $BO,OOO for a member of Parliament. Now we are being asked to fund “Big Brother” who has to fly from Auckland to keep an eye on Mainlanders. The whole board should resign and seek new “free”.' elections, with no appointees. If Mr Baird is so wonderful, why doesn’t he stand; then we can. see what the public think of him. — Yours, etc., A. CULLEN. December 27, 1989.
