Burglars hit many in Chch

By

TOM METCALFE

While Christmas is traditionally a time of giving, Christchurch police have been kept busy by some people who see it as a time of taking. A total of 117 burglaries were reported to the police from 5 p.m. on Friday, December 22, until 5 p.m. yesterday. Forty-nine cars were reported stolen during the same period. Inspector Pat Kavanagh said last evening that those figures would swell as people returned from holidays to find their homes burgled. As well as the many burglaries, Christchurch police had to deal with a large number of domestic disputes over the Christmas period. “Christmas is always a busy time, and this Christmas is no different,” Inspector Kavanagh said.
