Youth on telephone fraud charges

PA Auckland An unemployed Te Puke teenager has been charged with obtaining $B5O credit by fraud from Telecom New Zealand by claiming to be the subscriber of a telephone number at Te Kopuru, near Dargaville. Stephen Daniel Perkins, aged 17, is also charged with unlawfully carrying an imitation .45 calibre pistol on Christmas Eve. The police say he committed the frauds between December 7, 1988, and March 24, this year, in several towns and cities including Palmerston North, Auckland, Tauranga, Ngatea, Thames and Kaitaia. Perkins did not plead in the District Court in Auckland on Tuesday. Judge Pain remanded him on bail to January 9.
