Jail for sex attack on de facto wife

PA Wellington A man depressed at breaking up with his de facto wife decided to get revenge by humiliating her sexually, the High Court at Wellington heard yesterday. The defendant tied the woman to the bed and assaulted her in a series of indecent acts, as well as rape, Mr Justice Neazor said. The Nelson man, aged 33, was jailed for 4>/ 2 years after he pleaded guilty to sexual violation

by rape. The Court was told the defendant had known the woman for three years and had lived with her for 18 months when she decided to end the relationship. He got her back to the house on a pretext and attacked her. He also took photographs, which he threatened to send to people. The defendant told the police he wanted to hurt and humiliate the woman. He clearly succeeded, Justice Neazor said.
