Many unaware of rule change
PA Invercargill Thousands of golfers throughout New Zealand will use illegal putters from January 1. Golfers have had five years’ notice of a rule change outlawing
certain grips, but many are unaware that their present grips will not conform to the rules after January 1. Supplies of grips held in New Zealand would be unable to cope with the expected massive rush
by golfers to conform to the rule change. A rule change on grips was introduced by the Royal and Ancient in 1984, but a “period of grace” was granted until December 31, 1989.
