‘lnsufficient power’
During a civil emergency in Christchurch there may be insufficient electric power to run the Civil Defence headquarters, says Cr George Twentyman, chairman of the Canterbury Regional Council civil defence committee. He said that they had been notified by Southpower that in an emergency they may only be able to supply enough
power for their own requirements and this could mean that they would be unable to supply the headquarters. Cr Twentyman said that a headquarters without power was no headquarters. This view has been supported by the Regional Council management who are inquiring about alternative emergency power arrangements.
