Plains Exchange
Sir,—l read with interest the short piece you ran on the Plains Exchange and Barter System on
December 8. However, I was surprised to read that PLEBS is supposed to be intended principally for the “unemployed and those on lower incomes.” My software development company was, I believe, the first business to join PLEBS, and we did so because we see a definite potential in the system for people from all walks of life. I suspect that the aims of the organisers are not as narrow as the emphasis given by your article implies, and I hope that potential members from any part of the community will not be turned away by the thought that it “isn’t for me.” — Yours, etc., -
PETER HYDE. Development Director, AITECH (NZ), Ltd, December 9, 1989.
