Youth on arson count
PA Wellington An unemployed Rotorua youth has been charged with arson following a spate of fires in Rotorua on Saturday evening. Four fires were lit in the city, keeping the police and the Fire Service busy from about 9.30 p.m., said Sergeant Dick Cutler. The first of the fires was discovered at Owhata Primary School, where a resource room was exten-
sively damaged. A little later two classrooms were reported ablaze at Lynmore Primary School. In succession, the police and Fire Service investigated a jumbo rubbish container set alight behind a car dealer’s yard in Te Ngae Road, and a fire lit in the car park area of local shops in Amohia Street. The youth, aged 17, will appear in the District Court at Rotorua today.
