Jail for drug-making

A man convicted of attempting to manufacture morphine was sentenced to 21 months jail by Mr Justice Tipping in the High Court yesterday. Eru Lucien Hall, aged 38, a painter, pleaded guilty to the charge before a preliminary hearing in the District Court in November.

Hall was jointly charged with two other men — Paul Stephen Graham, aged 24, and Mark Richard Whittaker, aged 29.

After Hall pleaded, the police offered no evidence against the other two defendants and they were discharged. Hall attempted to manufacture the Class “B” controlled drug on September 26.-

Defence counsel, Mr Colin Eason, applied for a six-week remand to Odyssey House but Mr Justice Roper refused to allow this request. His Honour told Hall it was up to him to break his vicious cycle of offending.
