DANCE SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
The winner of the major Shell Dance Scholarship for 1990 is an Auckland dancer, Natalie Gee. The scholarship gives her direct entry into the
Royal New Zealand Ballet and pays the major part of her first year’s salary. Eighteen-year-old Gee began dancing at the age of five and has already appeared as an extra in
several Royal New Zealand Ballet productions, including the company’s performance of “Coppelia” before the Prince and Princess of Wales. She joined the New Zealand School of Dance
in 1988. The other two Shell scholarships, which entitle the recipients to free tuition during their third year of study at the school of dance, were awarded to Jason Carna-
chan (right) and Huw Morgan. The director of the school, Anne Rowse, says the standard of competition for the 1990 scholarships is probably the highest she had seen.
