Firm lays off staff
Wilkins and Davies construction firm has laid off 26 management and salaried staff from its Christchurch office;
Thirty-six staff have also been laid off from the company’s head office in Auckland, according to a brief statement from one of the company’s receivers, Mr Graham Edgar. Mr Edgar, of Touche Ross in Auckland, said the receivers were obliged to lay off some staff throughout the country to ensure that Wilkins and Davies could continue to trade and achieve an orderly realisation of assets.
Yesterday’s lay-offs are the first since the company went into receivership on December 1, after a year of financial problems.
