Sydenham
Sir,—lt is a pity that Dennis O’Rourke does not concentrate on the marginal electorate of Lyttelton, where he lives, rather than act as publicity officer for old Labour’s Sydenham candidate. The so-called Labour Party will be struggling for survival in Lyttelton as well as everywhere else in New Zealand. As one of the 150 New Labour Party canvassers in Sydenham last weekend I can tell Mr O’Rourke that not one of the 20 families I visited was going to vote for old
Labour. Most were in support of Jim Anderton and his New Labour Party, while the rest were traditional National voters. Sydenham voters, like the overwhelming majority of New Zealanders, have made up their minds about this supposed Labour Government. They want no more of it. If Mr O’Rourke did not discover that when he canvassed then I doubt he is capable of recognising reality even if it leapt off the street and hit him in the face. — Yours, etc.*
BRENDA HILL. December 4, 1989.
